Melissa’s Virtual Store grew by 81% in 2008! Grafia, the company which manages the store and possesses more than 10 years of internet experience with an emphasis on e-commerce, exceeded targets and achieved 50% more growth than the rest of e-commerce in the country.

According to E-Bit, in 2008 there was 30% growth in e-commerce nationally with respect to 2007. The average internet purchase was at R$328, more than R$302 in 2007.
This data demonstrates that consumers are more confident and are carrying out more expensive purchases. Even people who were not used to purchasing on-line, feel that it is safe to enter the market and purchase more costly products.

These were the most sold product categories in 2008, in terms of purchase volumes: Books (17%), Health and Beauty (12%), IT (11%), Electronics (9%) and Domestic Appliances (6%). This new positioning of products is due to a change in profile of consumers, whose majority is now made up of women (51%) and whose Class C experienced growth in this market and represents 42% of consumers.  At the end of 2009, e-commerce in Brazil should reach 17 million customers.
